Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much does a clinic cost?
It costs $50 to attend an umpire clinic. This fee covers the cost of the clinic, grants umpires their memberships in the umpires association, and provides shirts and hats to new officials. In some associations, the minor baseball organization will assist umpires with this fee.
2. How long are the clinics?
Registration for clinics is at 8:30 a.m. with the instruction starting at 9:00 a.m. The clinics will end around 4:00 p.m.
3. Do I have to attend the whole clinic?
Yes, it is imperative to attend the entire clinic.
4. What is taught at the clinics?
The umpire clinics attempt to prepare all officials for the upcoming season. Instructors teach sessions on baseball rules, mechanics, and game management.
5. Is there a test?
Yes. At the end of the clinic, an exam will be administered to all of the attendees. The questions on the exam will reflect the material covered during the day, and officials will write an exam that corresponds to their level of officiating.
6. Can I umpire without going to the clinic?
No. Baseball PEI and the PEI Baseball Umpires Association prohibit the use of unregistered officials for any sanctioned games. It is necessary for each umpire to be certified at the beginning of each season.
